(which I believe corresponds to substituting "scheme" for "lisp" in  
the above url)

The original thread was cross-posted to comp.lang.scheme and  
comp.lang.lisp, and later a useful part of the discussion (namely  
Oleg's post) was restricted to comp.lang.scheme alone, and so the  
view you get from only looking at the comp.lang.lisp is missing  
chunks of the story.
