In P K Dick novels such as "The Man in the High Castle"
and "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep", the character
does not *know* his universe is real or unreal. What
matters is that the character begins to *doubt* whether
his previous assumptions about reality and his identity
are true. For Dick characters, that feeling is usually
set aside (but not resolved) under pressure of urgent
