The R6RS rationale says that this is "a popular choice" among R5RS
implementations. To my mind, what is popular and not obviously broken
should be a candidate for standardization, so I have added |...|
to the lexical syntax features at http://tinyurl.com/thing-one.

Most languages are dramatically underdescribed, and at least one is
dramatically overdescribed. Still other languages are simultaneously
overdescribed and underdescribed. Welsh pertains to the third category.
